Jane Burgermeister : How swine flu (H1N1) was spread by Baxter

in which she she talks about how Mainstream Media (MSM), which is controlled by giant media corporations,  continues to keep quite about the TRUTHS about the “swine flu pandemic” and cover up the  facts, about the necessity of civil resistance, and about her suit case against Baxter and how officials abstract the investigations.

Please present (and/or uncover) a past or current story, which you believe to be overtly or covertly  “drummed up” by the MSM (ie. containing media bias).

Choose something “worthy” of sharing with your classmates. In other words, this story should be something that either directly or indirectly has the potential to affect all of us.

Your presentation should be in PPT format. It should introduce the story, and show why it’s an example of MSM bias.

Make sure to cite the appropriate mechanisms of media bias.

You may include online interviews, clips, charts, other “reliable source” reports/research, etc. in your PPT presentation.

Length: 10-15 minutes (longer, if you story demands more time be used to fully cover it; it’s up to you!!) to present

Watch a national or local news program on Korean television and apply the 6 criteria (impact, conflict, prominence,proximity, freshness, and novelty) used in the newspaper evaluation.

List the major stories that were covered in the news program.

2) Growing Up Online

After watching the first 5 parts of Frontline’s Growing Up Online series, how do you view the internet’s impact on teenagers? Do you worry about it, or not?

Compare what you read about teenage media usage (both myths and reality) in the Nielsen report with what you saw in the Growing Up Online series.

Devise captions for them which will anchor their connotations very differently from the way either the original press or family album setting had done.

Please explain the original context and intended connotations

This paper should include sections on your preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and your current media use.

Each section should discuss your favorite media and why, how you used the media, and effects from the media.

Minimum: 1000 words, 3 references
